City Escapes: Tamika Doubell explores Port Elizabeth

We recently encouraged our readers to get out there and explore their own cities as a tourist would – to see the sights that we forget are just at our doorstep when we’re caught up in the humdrum continuum of ‘real life’… Based in Cape Town, but originally a PE local, Tamika Doubell jumped at the opportunity to rediscover the charms of Port Elizabeth (PE) and share her must-see and must-experience gems with other travellers or locals in need of a little inspiration!

An entrepreneur, actress, model and blogger, Tamika launched into her #CityEscape with a stay at our Courtyard Hotel Port Elizabeth. We were thrilled to host Tamika, and always love hearing that our staff aimed to please. In Tamika’s words, “Friendly service with a team prepared to bend over backwards for you! They truly aimed to give me the best service and insight into the citys tourist attractions for my convenience and pleasure.

The following attractions made Tamika’s list of things to do and see in PE…

  2. The Boma Reptile World
  3. SA Marine Bird Rehabilitation and Education Centre
  4. Seaview Predator Park
  5. Jester Cruises

  2. Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World

For the foodies

Africology Spa

Africology Spa at The Boardwalk Hotel is 5 mins from the Courtyard Hotel.

I visited the Africology Spa a 5 minute walk from the hotel. This spa experience is definitely a must for the tourist if you need some pampering. I enjoyed a cleansing 35-minute Majestic Spa Awakening therapeutic massage. My therapist, Zola, is a true asset to her craft. Her massage ability is heaven-sent and her God-given ability will leave you asleep on the bed. The spa also offers Hydrotherapy, Grooming Packages and Skin Wraps. End off your experience with a cup of mint tea in their relaxation room.”

Stanley Street

Roses & Mint tea post-treatment. This is a nice way to rejuvenate when travelling to PE!

Port Elizabeth is also famous for its Stanley Street which can be compared to the Camps Bay strip in Cape Town. No ocean, but many pretty bars and restaurants. Hint: Make sure to get a taste of craft beer at the BeerYard in the evening. A small tasting tray is only R25!

Courtyard Hotel Port Elizabeth

I had a perfect stay at this hotel along PE’s beachfront. The complimentary drinks and snacks for guests by the fire every evening from 5-7pm is a win! Gorgeous view out the window of their lobby, a sky blue pool and a shuttle service to The Boardwalk or anywhere in the city on a day trip, I can see why this is a 4 star resort.

A thrilling sunrise greeted me when I woke up from a cold South African winters night thank goodness for the air conditioner to warm me up. I loved the modern feel of the whole hotel. Breakfast offered a delectable selection for guests. There was an extensive buffet for both Continental and full English options. Heres a tip: Try ordering a white omelette the chef prepares it superbly.

We couldn’t be happier that Tamika had an amazing stay in her hometown. If you’re looking for your next holiday spot, why not consider the beautiful and fun city of Port Elizabeth? We’d be delighted to look after you and give you some tips on things to do and see to make your City Escape as enjoyable as possible! Our staff at Courtyard Hotel Port Elizabeth are also always on hand to arrange transport for guests to various locations when you need help getting anywhere.
