You would all have seen and heard that the national electricity supply grid is currently operating under extreme pressure due to planned maintenance work, as well as the odd unplanned failure. Eskom is therefore calling on all consumers to please use electricity wisely.

We at City Lodge Hotel Group are committed to doing our part to help ameliorate the country’s power situation. We have requested all the staff at our various hotels throughout the country to remain conscious of the current constrained state of the grid and do all they can to reduce consumption during this time.

Call from Eskom to continue reducing power usage

Last month Eskom Chief Executive Brian Dames said that power supply has been limited this summer, leading to two system emergencies in February. Dames said however that in spite of the emergency declaration, “no rotational load-shedding was done – thanks to immediate demand reduction by all our customers and the utilisation of emergency reserves. Up to 1000MW of demand was reduced by our industrial, commercial and residential customers during the emergency periods.”

Dames extended his thanks to all of Eskom’s customers for reacting swiftly and reducing their power consumption. He has however asked that everyone continue in their efforts, particularly with winter around the corner when heating demands will place an additional burden on the national power grid.

The 49 Million Initiative

49M’s website gives individuals and companies the chance to pledge their commitment to the cause. So far the number stands at 251,420. We encourage you to add your name and join the movement to secure the prosperity of South Africa.
