The Herald VW Cycle Tour – South Africa’s second oldest national classic – will be taking place in beautiful Port Elizabeth, this year from 1 to 2 February.

City Lodge Hotel Group is a keen supporter of the event, and as such will once again be offering hassle-free accommodation and special deals to participants and their families and other supporters.

The Herald Cycle Tour – one event, many races

222The Herald Cycle Tour comprises both road events and mountain biking events. The road races take place in the picturesque Nelson Mandela Bay, while the mountain biking races take place in the world-class Addo Elephant Park.

On Saturday, 1 February, there will be nine different events taking place, including the 80km Extreme Mountain Bike Challenge, the 21km Powerade Leisure Ride, and the 500m Powerade Toddlers’ Dash!

Sunday, 2 February, is dedicated to just two races: the 106km Classic and the 55km Pursuit.

Hotel accommodation options

City Lodge Hotel Group has three hotels all within close proximity to the tour’s start and finish venue of Hobie Beach:

Town Lodge Port Elizabeth’s General Manager Glenn Pappin says, “We are very happy to be extending our relationship with this great event to a fourth year. It is a fixture on Port Elizabeth‘s annual sporting calendar.”

Pappin encourages riders to bring family and friends along to enjoy everything that PE has to offer, from water sports to game parks. “Our hotel is right on the beachfront and almost on the doorstep of The Boardwalk (Casino and Entertainment Complex), so there is plenty for [non-riders] to do while they are here.”

Pappin also says that City Lodge Hotel Group will be sponsoring 15 rooms, including breakfasts, as well as three “splash and dash” rooms so the professional cyclists can freshen up after the race prior to the prize-giving ceremony on Sunday.
